Register now: Facing Facts Network European Parliament hearing on 6 July

The sharp rise of recorded hate speech and hate crime incidents in Europe, both online and offline, has become particularly worrying, endangering the normalisation of these phenomena across the  EU. In light of next year’s European elections, and yet with no basis for a common European criminal law response to tackle all forms of hate speech and hate crime, the hearing organised by Facing Facts Network in cooperation with ARDI aims to  shed  light on  the ways cooperation and action can be enhanced for  CSOs, public authorities, and EU institutions. The hearing is an invitation to key stakeholders and the European Parliament to conceive themselves as part of a hate crime/hate speech response system in which problems are co-diagnosed and actions co-prioritized through multi-stakeholder, multi-national, EU, regional, cross-institutional methods. Participants will have the opportunity to locate themselves, their relationships, and their role within national, regional, and local systems and begin to see opportunities for collaborative action, with a specific emphasis on the role of the European Parliament and the national Spanish case as best practice. 


Aims and Objectives:

  • Promoting systems-thinking and collaborative response to the problem of hate crime and hate speech through a holistic multistakeholder, multi-national, EU, regional, cross-institutional, understanding role and opportunities in national/regional/local systems.
  • Examining relationships of actors implementing EU norms addressing hate crimes and hate speech
  • Share knowledge about the application and limitation of EU norms at local level
  • Crafting ways to move forward – Showcasing  findings of Facing Facts latest report: Current activities & gaps in Hate speech responses: A Mapping report for the Facing Facts Network.

For whom? Members of the Facing Facts Network, CSOs, policymakers, IGOs, community based organisations, and EU institutions, such as the European Commission and the European Parliament, responsible for addressing hate crime and hate speech in Europe.
